Imagine getting paid to ride a bike or hike a trail. Well that is just what bicycle and hiking guides do, but it's not all fun and games. Tour companies rely on these employees to provide a safe and enjoyable vacation for their guests. A pair of guides usually lead each trip, setup the meals, shepard the tourists and their luggage in and out of hotels, maintain the equipment, and socialize a bit before the work day is over. Touring companies consider excellent social skills the number one requirement for this job. Leaders must work hard ensuring that all guests get along and have a good time. Of course, being physically fit is essential. In order to drive the tour van, leaders must have a clean driving record and possess a valid driver's license. Leaders must also make sure that their CPR and first aid certifications are up-to-date. The tour company will provide some orientation and training, but the guides should be prepared to provide their own equipment. Bicycle and hiking guides combine physical skills and social activity to help people have the best vacation of their lives.
