A/V:
NARRATOR (VO): Patience. Compassion. And common sense. These are the most important characteristics of adjustment clerks.
These professionals investigate and resolve customer complaints about merchandise, service, billing, and personal credit ratings.
Adjustment clerks often act as both judge and jury. Their goal is to accept and fully understand each customer's complaint, then review it and come up with a solution that is within the company's guidelines, or explain the customer's problem to a supervisor.
There are adjustment clerk positions in banks, utility companies, department stores, and just about every other kind of business that sells something to the public.
Most customers are reasonable, but some can become angry. So an adjustment clerk who remains calm and works hard to turn an unhappy person into a satisfied customer will gain the respect of both the customer and the company.
