The professionals that people turn to for help are Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Workers. Care usually begins with counseling. Therapy can be on an individual basis or in groups. Most work is in hospitals, substance abuse treatment centers, individual or family service agencies, or for the government. A bachelor’s degree in social work, is the minimum requirement. Many social workers also have a master’s degree. A surprising number of people struggle with addiction or mental health problems.
