Ceiling Tile Installer Job Description video

Career Videos >> Architecture and Construction >> Ceiling Tile Installer video

Ceiling tile installers place acoustic tiles in suspended ceiling grids. To reach their workspace, they often use rolling platforms called “bakers.” First they install a molding which supports the ends of metal grid frames. Maintaining exact angles, lines and height is an absolute necessity, aided by modern tools: Blueprints are projected onto the ceiling, and laser levels help maintain constant heights. After installing a metal grid frame, ceiling tiles can be maneuvered into position. The parts are manufactured to snap together. Once the field is complete, installers cut tiles to fit between the last frame bar, and the wall. Most ceiling tile installers start as helpers and learn their skills on the job. Builders associations and trade unions also offer apprenticeship programs. This is an easy trade to learn, but it can be hard to do day after day. With so much lifting overhead, workers are prone to shoulder injuries from repetitive motion. It’s a good idea to learn other kinds of interior construction work, so you can give your muscles some variety—and a break!
